i am very happy how this sweater turned out. it is a basic "knit from the top" pattern. i made the sleeves fitted and 3/4 long to set off the long Aline shaped body. the linen was a bit tough to knit, but i am at peace with it since :
a) i already threw it in the washer and dryer and it came out looking great
b) i love the feel of it on my skin, its almost cooling. big plus when you live in los angeles

monterey

last week i went to monterey for work. hearing what a beautiful place it is, i took my family along and extended the stay for a couple days. we took the car ,which meant a 5 1/2 hour drive. plenty of time for knitting. i decided on making a simple toe up sock, with a small braid on the sides, so i would not get bored. the yarn came from my stash.





monterey aquarium, california. what a amazing place. jellyfish! i was completely taken by these graceful creatures. just breathtaking.
sadly i had not enough time to see everything i wanted to, but i will for sure go back.

linen

so far i was a pure wool knitter. i tried my hands before on some cotton but did not like working with it. it was the lack of elasticity which drove me off.
that has all changed now. i discovered a new love for linen, silks and so on, with nora's cami, knit in flaxen, a linen silk yarn by handmaiden. i found myself enjoying working with it. how come? i think mostly it is because we have this super hot summer. the yarn felt wonderfully cool in my hands.
and that brings me to my new project: linen. the yarn is euroflax fom louet. it feels stiffer than flaxen, but there is a freshness in its crispiness. kind of like fresh air dried and ironed bedsheets.
i decided on a boat neck sweater with 3/4 arms, inspired by "knitting from the top" by barbara g. walker. so far i am loving it......

sunray

i knit this neck warmer back in april. it came out quite lovely. squishy, warm and cheerful. it was a fast and easy knit. if you are interested, the pattern is now available for free download.

baby beanie

i knitted this one for my friend que's baby. it is super easy and fast to make. the hat is very soft and light, perfect for a newborn. i choose a roll up edge so it can grow with the little one.

i will make this pattern available as soon as i figured out how to get it on the blog.

miya's school bags

i got a phone call friday afternoon, asking if miya would like to come to school starting next week. we were originally thinking she will go in january. but there was a sudden opening and we decided to give it a try. so yesterday i was frantically going through my fabric stash trying to figure out what she might need. i came up with this:



bag #1 for all her cremes [ sunscreen, arnica & calendula creme]



bag #2 for extra diapers, wipes



bag #3 for extra clothing


i am so nervous. she is just getting to be 2 years young, and there she goes to school!!!

miya's fall sweater #1

i actually knitted this sweater in late spring. it was too hot by then for her to wear it, but i made it big enough, so she can fit into it for a quite while. i am hoping the next two years or so. [wishful thinking]
it is a very simple sweater knit from the top down.

i love this yarn sooo much! it is 80% fine wool & 20% cashmere. it is like butter.




my friend cynthia from plumknit gave me a cry for help. she got all this amazing sock yarn and was in desperate need for a pattern. since it is over 90 degrees right now, all what i could think of was lace. but she also has this yarn in beautiful variegated hand dyed colors. great for simple socks.
i knitted the socks in small to medium & medium to large size.

on an other note, i am slowly chipping away on the hybrid sweater. it was almost finished when i realized that it was too tight. so there was a big frogging party going on here. but i finished the body and one sleeve, it should not take too long anymore. at least i hope so.

this was a fun and easy knit. it definitely helped me over my boredom when i needed a break from the hybrid sweater. i love how the color and pattern work together. how perfect is the name "seafoam" for it. i should also mention that you do not want to make any mistakes, unraveling this yarn is a nightmare.
i am sending it off ti roberta tomorrow. hopefully she will like the scarf.

waterfall scarf

and here we have the missing 2 skeins of habu yarn. it was a absolute pleasure knitting with that yarn, and i will soon tackle the other habu cashmere in my stash.
the stitch pattern is called 'vertical drop-stitch. the scarf measures 4" inch wide and 58" inch long. it took exactly 2 skeins of yarn.
